Chestnuts are great at this time of year. Split the skins and bake them in the bottom of the oven while you're cooking something else - leave the oven on lower and longer while you eat your main course - and the chestnuts should be nicely done when you're ready for them. This is a lovely month for mulled apple juice - choose your own spices and make your own.
